Colour scale

This routine colours a range of data according to the values in the cell. It is a quick form of conditional formatting and allows a wider range of colours (8) than the built-in version. The following shows the result of using the routine on a range of random variables:


To achieve these results, the upper range of the Excel palette is changed, so you might see some strange results if you have already used colours from the upper range in your worksheet (most people seem to use the lower part of the range).
